Bath time can be a highlight of the day or a source of stress, depending on how prepared you are. Here is a routine that works.
Keep the water and room warm
Aim for bath water around 100°F (37°C), and warm the bathroom beforehand so your baby is not shocked by cold air after getting out.
Choose gentle, fragrance-light products
A mild, tear-free wash and a fragrance-light lotion reduce the chance of skin irritation. Less is more here — baby skin does not need a full product lineup.
Support matters
A contoured bath support or non-slip mat keeps a squirming newborn secure and frees up one of your hands.
Make it a wind-down ritual
Consistency helps. A warm bath, gentle lotion massage, and a soft towel wrap can become a reliable cue that signals bedtime is approaching.
After the bath
Pat, do not rub, and apply lotion while skin is still slightly damp to help lock in moisture.
